A juicy, mouthwatering burger is sure to be a treat for the taste buds! Preparing it, however, can be an intimidating task for some people, especially if you start out with patties straight from the freezer. Fortunately, this does not need to be a difficult task!
If you want to learn how to grill frozen patties, read the rest of this post and we’ll extend a helping hand. Whether you are using the best pellet grill or a top-rated charcoal grill, the steps will be basically the same.
Prepare the Things You Will Need
The first thing you need to do is to get ready with the tools and ingredients that you will need. Of course, you will need a grill. As mentioned in the introduction, you can use pellet, charcoal, or any other type of grill that suits your personal preference.
You will also need the frozen burger patties, as well as a seasoning that will make the meat more flavorful. A thermometer will also come handy to easily monitor the internal temperature of the patty as you grill it.
To prepare the burger patties, take them out from the packaging. Remove the plastic that wraps the patty. Removing the patty from the stack can be a challenge, so use a butter knife to separate them.
Pre-Heat the Grill
Now that you have prepared everything you will need for grilling, the next thing to do is to pre-heat the grill depending on how many patties you plan to cook or how thick the patty is. The heat should be at medium-low. If you are using a gas grill, pre-heat it to at least 325 degrees Fahrenheit. For other grills, place your hand about three inches on the top of the grate. If you can already feel the heat without being burnt, this means that the grill is ready.
Season as Desired
This will depend on personal preferences. In some cases, the patty is already seasoned, so there is no need to have additional flavoring. If you are using unseasoned burger patties, you can season it with salt, pepper, garlic powder, or any other seasoning you prefer.
Grill the Patty
Some might think that you need to wait for a couple of minutes for the patty to thaw before grilling. However, this is not the case. Leaving the burger patty at room temperature for an extended period can result in contamination, so this is not a good practice.
After pre-heating, it is now time to grill your frozen burger patties. Using a metal flipper, turn the patty around after five minutes. Repeat this until about 25 minutes of when the patty is already cooked.
While grilling the burger, it is possible that there will be flare-ups. If this happens, simply move the patty on the side and wait until the flame subsides. Also, closing the lid will help to stop the flow of oxygen and prevent flames.
Check the Thermometer
One of the challenges of cooking burger patties is the difficulty of knowing when it is already fully-cooked. In some cases, it might appear cooked from the outside, but the inside is still frozen. To eliminate guesswork, you will need a thermometer.
Take off the meat from the grill and use a thermometer. Ideally, the temperature should be 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Otherwise, you will need to spend more time grilling.
Make your Own Burger
Now, the grill is ready. But that does not mean that it is the end of it. If you plan to eat the patty with buns, you also need to toast the buns. Heat it just enough for your preference. On a clean plate, put the bottom bun. Add the patty and the condiments that you prefer, including ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, or hot sauce. To make it more flavorful, add anything else that you want, including lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon, and pickles. Be creative to make your burger a mouthwatering treat!
At this point, we hope that you now know how to grill frozen patties. You don’t need to be a trained chef to prepare a gourmet burger right at the comfort of your own home. It does not take much time and effort to prepare a delicious and juicy burger to enjoy!
